Calm the Chaos: Teach Your Child This Fun Breathing Technique!

Big emotions are sometimes a little tricky for your child to navigate. And while we can model and show them how we manage our own emotions, it's important to give them some skills and strategies of their own!

Teaching your children breathing techniques will allow them to calm and relax in those big feeling moments.

This is one of my favourite ones, ready?

  1. With this one, start holding your hands in an almost completely closed fist.
  2. Bring them to your mouth and pretend that you’re blowing up a balloon.
  3. Encourage big deep belly breaths.
  4. Slowly fill your balloon up.
  5. And then to make it fun you can let it go and pretend it’s flying crazy around the room (be warned, this is a lot of fun!)
  6. Or tie the balloon off and let it float away. This is a great visualisation for letting the worries disappear!
